Edifier MR4 Speaker Review

 General/Build

Edifier is a brand which produces a wide range of audio products. Ranging from headphones, true wireless earphones, as well as speakers, they all come in different price ranges ranging from entry level all the way to mid and high end.

Today I have the MR4 with me, which is a monitor speaker. The speaker is in the following configuration: 1 inch dome tweeter and 4 inch diaphragm woofer, it is able to reproduce a full range sound without the need of an external subwoofer.
The Edifier MR4 speaker is designed with a sleek and modern appearance that is sure to complement a range of home decor styles. The cabinet itself is made out of MDF in order to minimise acoustics resonance.

Foreword

My review is solely based on what I hear via my equipment and I never consider my reviews to be objective in any way rather a subjective approach. Do take into consideration that everyone’s ear anatomy is not the same, so the psychoacoustics perception might be different as well, but i believe it will not stray too far

Audio Performance/Sound Impression
The Edifier MR4 is using 1 inch dome and 4 inch diaphragm woofer, hence it is able to reproduce a balanced sound across the frequency range. Bass will be affected in terms of placement and room acoustic treatment, placing the MR4 very close to the wall will give out a very boomy and unpleasant bass. However, sticking several pieces of acoustic foam panel seems to alleviate the boomy bass issue and in return a more balanced sound.

The mids are forward and lush, both male and female vocals have good texture and tonality to it.

In terms of soundstage, the MR4 does a great job of creating a wide and immersive soundfield. Soundstage for speakers largely depends on the placement of the speakers, positioning is quite important to achieve a good soundstage. The MR4 also has a bass and treble control at the rear right speaker, for this listening test, both bass and treble control are being set to 0.

Features

  • The power knob act as a toggle between music mode/monitor mode, making MR4 a versatile speaker, being a monitor speaker or a speaker to listen to music

  • Balanced TRS input is a very welcoming feature as well

  • Bass and treble control dial

Conclusion
The Edifier MR4 speaker is a versatile and high-quality audio system that delivers impressive sound performance across a range of frequencies, considering the asking price, the performance is actually in line with the price, at times maybe punching above its weight.

The MR4's sleek and modern design is also worth noting, with a matte black finish that looks great in any setting. Whether you're using it in a home office setup, as a desktop speaker, or for casual listening, monitoring speaker, the MR4 is sure to impress with its stylish appearance and impressive audio quality.

*A big thanks to Edifier Malaysia for sending this over for the purpose of this review. Grateful for the opportunity as always.
