FiiO DM15 AKM Edition Review - The other flavour of the same excellent platform

General/Packaging/Build I've been sitting on the DM15 R2R for a while now, so when FiiO sent over the AKM variant, I already knew roughly what to expect on the build side, and I wasn't wrong. Same chassis language, same top-loading transparent glass lid where you can watch the disc spin, same solid in-hand feel. To my ears and eyes both, this thing does not feel like a budget portable CD player, it feels like a proper piece of desktop Hi-Fi gear that just happens to be small enough to carry around. Where it differs from the R2R is under the hood, FiiO swapped out the R2R DAC architecture for a dual AKM AK4493S setup, paired with its own filter and amp stage. Build quality wise though, I honestly can't tell the two apart, same metal-and-glass construction, same reassuring weight, same overall footprint. ddHifi C2023 Audiophile Carrying Case Review

General

ddHifi has a lot of product lines under the brand, ranging from cables to IEM, yes you heard me right, IEMs, the Janus, adapters and various other audiophiles accessories. Personally I owned and used several of ddHifi’s adapters as well as their OTG cables, both of which are of high quality. Today we will be taking a look at their carrying case, the C2023.

Build

Build quality is very good, overall fabric is very thick and the seams are very clean as well.

YKK zipper which is known for its impeccable quality and durability. Zipper is smooth and it does not have the feeling of sticky/stuck. The bottom of the bag is made out of cowhide leather, on top of that, it is being layered with a layer of sponge for extra protection of your device, a very thoughtful design.

Compartments

The front compartment is big enough to fit small accessories such as keys, cards, or even an airpod pro. Moving to the main compartment, I am able to fit in an iFi Gryphon Portable Dac/Amp, and also an iPod Touch within it. On top of that, I have a small wallet and I'm able to put that in as well if I place my wallet horizontally, you can imagine how spacious it is in the main compartment.

Within the main compartment, there is a small compartment with a zipper, i store my dongle within that compartment, which fits my Hidizs S9 Pro nicely.

Moving to the back on the pouch/bag, you may unzip it to gain extra space, i tried fitting in a small 250ml water bottle and it fits just fine

Strap

  • Moving on to the strap, the strap itself is also packed with features and easy to adjust in terms of length

  • On the strap itself, there is a mesh bag to put your bluetooth dongle, it is able to fit in my iFi Go Blu and also there’s a hook for you to put your cable through it to prevent the cable from dangling all over, a very thoughtful design, the only thing that’s missing is a shoulder pad for more comfort, then it’ll be perfect!

Final Thoughts

As someone who carries quite a lot of stuff in their pocket, also an audiophile, this C2023 is a god send. I shifted my wallet into the case from my pocket, my bluetooth dac/amp, my keys and IEMs all inside the case and i barely have anything else in my pockets, this is very convenient and when i get home, i will not unpack my on the go listening setup, instead i will just leave them within the case, the next time when i’m heading out, i just pick up the case and off i go, very convenient. Highly recommended!
