ddHiFI PC150 Power Cord's Impression/Review

General/Packaging

The PC150 power cable comes in a very premium packaging, which is always the case for ddHifi’s product. The unboxing experience definitely does not disappoint. The packaging comes with the power cable itself, a manual, as well as a screwdriver to take the plug apart from the cable should you need to.

Build Quality

The cable itself is very well built, solid and thick, the plug has two variations, one which is transparent, the standard variant, the black colored one which i have today is a better plug which ddHifi claims to have better soundstage perception as well as better sonic performance. The cable, although it is thick, but it is not that hard and stiff, when connecting to a smaller amp/dac, it doesn’t tip the balance off from the unit

Foreword

My review is solely based on what I hear via my equipment and I never consider my reviews to be objective in any way rather a subjective approach. Do take into consideration that everyone’s ear anatomy is not the same, so the psychoacoustics perception might be different as well, but i believe it will not stray too far

Sound Impression and Comparison

*The cable has been run in for approximately 20-30 hours prior to writing this sound impression.

I have several so-called audiophile power cables which I ordered/purchased from a chinese store (taobao), comparing the build quality itself, the difference is definitely day and night in terms of the outer layer of the cable, and also the plug of the cable.

In terms of sound, to be honest, the difference is not much, i noticed cleaner sound overall compared to the cheaper alternative, also, the electric’s noise which was slightly audible when I was using the previous power cable, is not there anymore. Of course, you can say its placebo or i’m just making it up, but i am speaking based on my experience with my setup, so do take into consideration that your mileage might vary

Final Thoughts

Cable improving the sound of the setup is a very controversial topic and highly debatable, there are some who don’t hear any difference and there are those who are like me, who have the ability to perceive the changes/improvement. Do keep in mind that a power cable will not make a bad system sound better, but instead improve on aspects such as noise or potential hum from the power, that aside, ddHifi’s PC150 is definitely a worthy investment if you are looking for some high quality power cable that is built to last. The price might be on the higher side, but given the benefits of it (build quality, jack quality and improving your setup’s power delivery), I highly recommend you to try it out.
